“Miss Fortune”, the new CD from Deja Voodoo Band, is what a true ‘Rock Album’ should be!! Sure, it’s good to throw in your car CD player and listen to on your way to and from work, but to enhance your listening experience with this CD, gather your friends, grab a six pack ( or 2 ), crank up the volume and get lost from reality for 58 minutes and 48 seconds! Then take the remaining one minute & 12 seconds to recover and push play again!
From the toe tapping ass shaking tunes like “Miss Fortune”, “Hole in My Pocket”, “Toe the Line”, “Don’t Give Me Lip” and “Big Foot, Bad Attitude” to the haunting “Chillicothe Road”. The wonderful instrumental, “Song for Diane”, the life lesson “Hammer or Nail” and the honorary “Soldier’s Song” you won’t be disappointed with this CD. (And by the way, when you’re listening in your car, you’d better have the top down!)

CD REVIEW...MISS FORTUNE
On a beautiful summer day, jump in your car, roll down the windows (or put the top down) take a cruise down a long country road, plug in DVB's Miss Fortune and crank it up. This house rockin', butt shakin', gritty, rock and blues is the CD of the summer. Packed with 12 original cuts, Miss Fortune has all the right stuff, iricluding veteran musicianship to gain national success.
The CD opens with the title tune, Miss Fortune, with a signature guitar lick that rolls right into the song with a driving force from Mark Verba's Heritage axe. This cut sets the stage for the CD with its rockin, blues rhythm and DC's powerful, gritty vocals telling it like it is. Hole in My Pocket follows to keep the butts shakin'. There is a very fine keyboard solo by Ken Hrezik that takes. the song home. Ken's keyboarding has the sound of the old Hammond with the Leslie speaker. A sound that is becoming less heard in today’s music.
Hourglass Sand intros with DC on his (nothing but) Hohner Big River harp and bring into a very melodic, emotional piece. Toe the Line hits us with more attitudes about a relationship going bad. Segueing into Chillicothe Road, there is a very chilling reminder and the stigma Kirtland Ohio' sustained from the infamous cult murder of the Dennis Avery family.
Getting back to some hard hitting house rockin' grit, Don't Give Me Lip deliver's a knock out punch. Followed by, Song for Diane. A very heartfelt instrumental melody by Mark and Ken then segues into Soldier's Song. An emotional ballad you can tell . DC really put his heart into the lyrics when he wrote them.
OK! Big Foot, Bad Attitude just flat out kicks ass. Mark riffs sounding something like Eddie Van Halen cutting up the fret board while DC clearly explains to stay out of Big Foots way. Pretty Little Thing is probably the most fun song on the CD. With a very catchy beat and lyrics about trying to hook up with a girl that just doesn't give him a
look.
Hammer or Nail is my personal favorite cut on this CD. A minor key blues piece that is quite danceble and with a "quit yer bitchin'" message. It started out by being a mistake by bassist Todd Becker. That's how many great songs are created. Kudos to Todd!!
Todd by the way holds a solid rhythm with his Fender and Ibanez basses throughout the entire CD. His rhythm section partner, WIl E. Jones on his Yamaha kit display a fine, important chemistry that is so key in making this CD as good as it is. It also shows during their performance as well
Closing out Miss Fortune is a reflective ballad, Take It My Friend. With a message of life being short, so make it a good one; and thus we shall my friends.
As I said at the beginning DVB's Miss Fortune is the CD of the summer for the local music scene. You can and should own this CD, and you are able to do that by going to www.dejavoodooband.com. Also check their schedule and see them live to enhance your appreciation for Miss Fortune. .
